At Rao Dermatology, our philosophy is to ensure quality of life is properly cared for, for our patients and beyond. We give back to the communities we serve in various ways, both globally and locally. Our clinicians offer free cancer screenings open to the public, while travelling to other countries to bring care to those in need.

Central Valley, California

Every year, Rao Dermatology hosts Skin Cancer Screenings for residents in the Central Valley. Our annual screening is an opportunity to educate the local community about skin health, and give access to clinical care to those who may be underserved.

US Disaster Relief

With so many global charity projects started and running successfully, Dr. Rao felt the need to create something permanent here in the United States. After much research, HomeFirst was started, a non-profit organization that provides disaster relief and free mobile clinics to the most underserved areas in the United States. The team at Home First visited rural parts of the country and contacted local and state agencies to see what is needed the most. It became clear that physicians in these areas were responsible for upwards 4,000 patients in primary care and there was an even greater need in specialized care. HomeFirst, in partnership with APPNA raised funds for 5 mobile clinics to serve these areas. In the event of a disaster, these mobile clinics are equipped to travel to the areas and provide medical aid to anyone injured or in need or help.

Rawalpindi, Pakistan

Dr. Babar K. Rao is a passionate advocate of education and medicine in his native country of Pakistan. As Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery are two of the most underrepresented medical specialties in the country, Dr. Rao serves as the Chairman of the Rawalpindi Medical College Overseas Foundation (RMCOF), an organization dedicated to support burn victims in the area. In 2007, Dr. Rao and his fellow colleagues opened a privately-funded Burn Center at the Holy Family Hospital, which has since reduced the local mortality rate from major burns by over 50%. To learn more about RMCOF and to get involved, visit their website.

Imbert, Dominican Republic

With the support of our generous medical colleagues, Rao Dermatology hosts an annual free clinic in the village of Imbert, located in the Dominican Republic. We’ve since been able to expand and provide medical support in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, to support their community after the 2010 earthquake.

Nepal, 2015

In 2015, the Nepal Earthquake struck at a 7.8 magnitude and left thousands in need of medical care. Dr. Rao and his team traveled to Nepal to aid in relief efforts, visiting three villages - Bungamati, Pahadaya Thapa Lele and Jaharshing Pauwa. During this visit, over 1,000 patients received medical care, and the team supported in providing medical supplies to Kathmandu’s Patan Hospital. While in the area, Dr. Rao collaborated with the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America and the local rotary club to establish housing for victims in the nearby village, Lele. The Nepal Mission remains close to the heart of Rao Dermatology.

Haiti, 2010

In 2010, Dr. Babar Rao took a small team to Port Au Prince, Haiti to help disaster relief efforts after a devastating earthquake displaced over 1.6million people. Flying into the Dominican Republic, the team along with some local medical support drove to Haiti. The team spent 3 days helping anyone and everyone they could see. Medical clinics were set up, but several first responders were going out into the rubble to aid those in need.
